Baraga on condition of his acceptance into the diocese of Cincinnati. Has no doubt of the applicants vocation. Gives biographical details and record of service as assistant. States that "his zeal was often excessive, and therefore in this he sometimes had to be checked. That otherwise all his activities are based on pious intentions, can seemingly all the less be doubted because he always leads an edifying course of life, and all that he gains he unselfishly applies to pious purposes." Baraga wanted to leave immediately for France and England, there to improve his French and English, but was ordered to remain at his post, which order he obeyed. Baraga "who otherwise is healthy, but not of a robust constitution, is driven to the mission of North America only by his pious mind, and it is hoped that he will do much good in those regions." GXE.
